UPDATE: Ticket requests for Swearing-In Ceremony closed

November 19, 2008

Due to the overwhelming number of requests for tickets received since November 5, 2008, the day after the election, Congressman Abercrombie's office is no longer able to accept requests for tickets to the Swearing-In Ceremony for President-elect Barack Obama. If you have already submitted a request, Congressman Abercrombie's office will be in touch with you, via the contact information you provided, to say whether you will receive tickets to the Swearing-In Ceremony.

If you have already made a ticket request and have a question or concern, call the Congressman's office at:

  • 202-225-2726 in Washington, D.C., or
  • 808-541-2570 in Honolulu.

The Inauguration of the President involves a series of different events, most notably the Swearing-In Ceremony on January 20, 2009 in Washington, D.C. Congressman Abercrombie's office has received an overwhelming number of requests for tickets from individuals and families to attend the Swearing-In Ceremony.

The number of requests far exceeds the number of tickets that each congressional office is anticipating to receive from the official body that plans the Swearing-In Ceremony at the Capitol-- the Joint  Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC). The committee will distribute tickets for the Swearing-In Ceremony to congressional offices in January, when the new session of Congress begins.  The number of tickets that will become available through congressional offices is very limited. The tickets will allow the holder to attend the Swearing-In Ceremony only.

The Inauguration of the President will be held on January 20, 2009 on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. No matter where you will be that day, the people of Hawaii will have a special seat in history when President-elect Obama is sworn into office.

“It is a stunning story that Hawaii would be the birthplace and the origin of the most powerful person on the planet, the President of the United States. Hawaii, its people, its diversity, and its spirit of aloha helped to shape President-elect Obama as a boy and young man growing up in these islands.

“When he ascends the stairs to the Inaugural platform at the U.S. Capitol, the people of Hawaii and his ohana will follow his steps, as he assumes the reigns of an office for which he has worked so hard to attain and realizes a dream that Americans have only envisioned until this day.”  — Congressman Neil Abercrombie
