King Defends Troops Against Leftwing Attack

Washington, D.C.Congressman Steve King today voted to turn back another Pelosi-led bill that would expose America to further terrorist attacks and undermine the mission of our armed forces. The proposal comes only forty-nine days after the Pelosi-led Democrats tied funding for our troops to a requirement that our military Commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, report to Congress in September on progress.

“Extremist antiwar groups have a puppet with this leftist majority. General Petraeus will report to Congress on September 15, just as Democrats requested. But ultra-left groups like MoveOn.org want their puppet to act now. Pelosi and her ultra-leftists could have given our intelligence community new tools to fight Islamic Jihadists who want to kill us. Instead, we get more hot air and liberals using our troops in a negligent political poker game,” said King

Quoted in today’s Washington Post, the Democrat Majority Leader admitted his party is being pressured by antiwar groups like MoveOn.org. King called the Pelosi-contrived Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act, “an Orwellian title for a cut-and-run bill.” Before and after debate on the cleverly named bill, Democrats in the House of Representatives rejected opportunities to consider a proposal that would provide new and updated tools for our intelligence professionals and help them prevent the next terrorist attack.

“This Pelosi-led Congress has done everything it can to weaken the will of the American people to fight murderous Islamic Jihadists wherever they emerge. The American people must recognize evil for what it is, and we must have the will to stamp it out--even if America’s left-leaning Congress doesn’t recognize evil and won’t fight it,” King concluded.

Congressman Steve King (R-IA) represents Western Iowa in the United States Congress and sits on the Agriculture, Judiciary and Small Business Committees. He is also Chairman of the innovative Conservative Opportunity Society, founded by Newt Gingrich.
