Washington, D.C.—With the support of U.S. Congressman Steve King, today the U.S. House passed the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, which would increase fines for radio and television stations that broadcast indecent and offensive material.
“The raunchy material on the public airwaves that violates our laws inevitably reaches our families and children,” said King. “No longer should we be afraid to turn on the radio or TV in front of our children because those indecent broadcasters will pay the price for breaking the law.” The Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act would raise Federal Communications Commission fines from $32,500 to $325,000 per violation. King serves on the House Judiciary Committee and is a member of the House Values Action Team.
