WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel was elected by acclamation to serve as the 4th highest ranking Member of the House Democratic Leadership. Emanuel will become the youngest member of the Democratic Leadership and will be the first third-term member to serve as Caucus Chair since the twenties.
“On the campaign trail, we made a promise to change the tone in Washington. And last week, the American people sent a message to Washington: it’s time for a New Direction,” said Emanuel. “Today, we took the first step towards fulfilling our commitment. Under this leadership, this Caucus will be the agents of change and reform the People’s House deserves.”
In January 2005, Emanuel accepted the position as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and under his leadership and aggressive recruitment efforts, the DCCC expanded the Democratic Party’s reach in every region of the country and 20 months later, the Democrats gained 29 seats in the House. In addition to serving as Caucus Chair, Emanuel will continue to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee. |
