Emanuel, Lautenberg Honor Fallen Troops

Resolution to Recognize Fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel and Senator Frank Lautenberg announced the introduction of a concurrent resolution honoring the members of the Armed Forces who have given their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

“We invoke the sacrifices of our fallen in the abstract, but we never take the time to honor them individually,” Emanuel said. “Congress has a responsibility to let the families of these heroes know that their sacrifice will always be remembered by a grateful nation.”

Emanuel introduced the resolution in the House of Representatives on Thursday, November 3rd and currently has 74 cosponsors.  Senator Lautenberg will introduce the Senate version today.

“We recently passed a grim milestone of two thousand soldiers killed in Iraq. Every one of those deaths represents a tragic loss for a family and loved ones,” said Lautenberg. “These families need to know the nation shares their pain and honors the sacrifice of those brave soldiers.”

Congressman Emanuel and Senator Lautenberg have memorials to the fallen of Iraq and Afghanistan in the hallways outside of their Washington, DC offices.  These memorials remember each service member who has died in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
