BEAN RELEASES FUNDING REQUESTS
  House to vote on FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations
 

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Melissa Bean (IL-08) announced that the House will vote on H.R. 1105, the FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill. The bill includes $14,196,117 in funding Bean requested for the following projects in earlier versions of the bill:

Commerce, Justice, and Science
Allendale Association: $300,000 through the Department of Justice’s Juvenile Justice account to enhance the Allendale Association’s Transitional Living, Foster Care and Community Mentoring Programs.

McHenry County Public Safety Dispatch: $500,000 through the Department of Justice’s COPS Law Enforcement Technology for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the SouthEast Emergency Communications Center to perform dispatching functions for each other in the event that one or the other dispatch center becomes incapacitated.
 
WINGS Program: $100,000 through the Department of Justice’s Juvenile Justice account to support a comprehensive medical advocacy and outreach program for women and children trying to escape abusive situations.

Energy and Water
Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal: $480,768 in addition to funding secured by other Members for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the dispersal barriers in the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal.

Great Lakes Remedial Action Plans: $92,000 in addition to funding secured by other Members for technical assistance to Remedial Action Plans (RAP) Committees.  RAPs embody a comprehensive ecosystem approach to restoring and protecting beneficial uses and to identifying specific actions to resolve pollution problems.  The purpose of this program is for the Corps of Engineers to provide technical support to states and RAP committees.

McCook and Thornton Reservoirs: $4,784,835 in addition to funding secured by other Members for the ongoing design and construction of the McCook and Thornton Reservoirs to address the overwhelming water pollution and flooding problems of the Chicagoland combined sewer areas.

Financial Services
Illinois Institute of Technology for the Illinois Manufacturing Innovation Coalition: $196,514 through the Small Business Administration to complete the pilot project initiated in FY08 to enable small and medium-sized Illinois manufacturers to innovate and adopt sustainable manufacturing products and processes.

Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education
Advocated Good Shepherd Hospital: $48,000 through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention account for the expansion on an ongoing project to address the growing problem of childhood obesity among elementary schools in Lake County, IL.

Children’s Memorial Hospital: $317,000 in addition to funds secured by other Members of Congress, through the Health Resources and Services Administration account used to dedicate a floor of their new hospital to children’s cardiac care.

Hospice of Northeastern Illinois: $552,000 through the Health Resources and Services Administration account to be used toward construction of a new hospice home that will serve an estimate 1,100 residents annually.

Kids Hope United: $100,000 through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration account to be used to expand its Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) Program to provide services to high-risk youth and their families.

Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
Meacham Road Toll-way Access Ramps, Schaumburg, IL: $475,000 for phase one engineering of a west-bound off ramp at Meacham Road from U.S. Interstate 90 to help reduce congestion in this busy office, retail, tourist and residential area.

Metra: $4,800,000 in addition to funds secured by other Members of the Illinois Delegation to be used in part for preliminary engineering and environmental assessment work for the Metra Suburban Transit Access Route Line (STAR) Line, as well as preliminary engineering of upgrades to the Metra Union Pacific NorthWest Line (Metra’s second busiest line), including a new station, an extension of track, new facilities, and enhanced overall service.

Miller Road Widening, McHenry, IL: $475,000 to help widen Miller Road from Illinois Route 31 to River Road.  This funding will compliment the $6,364,000 that was received in SAFETEA-LU for improvements to Miller Road.  Widening Miller to four lanes will help ease traffic congestion on this heavily traveled north-south thoroughfare.

Route 120 Corridor, Lake County, IL: $975,000 for phase one engineering of a section of the Illinois Route 120 corridor between U.S. Route 12 and Illinois Route 131.  Creating the Illinois Route 120 Corridor will be a coordinated effort including several local municipalities, Lake County, and the state of Illinois in order to reduce congestion and increase traffic flow in this rapidly growing area.
