Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Melissa Bean (IL-08) announced that the House will vote on legislation that includes funding she requested in H.R. 3222, the Department of Defense Fiscal Year 2008 Appropriations Act. The bill includes funding Bean requested for the following projects.
Weapons Enhancements of the U.S. Army Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS): $1 million for the CROWS system, which removes the vehicle gunner from exposure to enemy fire and equips him with a state-of-the-art stabilized remote weapon station with precision fire control. This funding will support the integration of advanced weapons capabilities onto the CROWS and move forward on testing and delivery of a production-ready upgrade available for immediate fielding.
Javelin Antitank Missile Integration into U.S. Army Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS): $2 million in support funding for integration of the Javelin Antitank Missile onto the U.S. Army Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS), an unfunded Army requirement. The program will help fund non-recurring engineering efforts to fully integrate these two systems, produce the required hardware and software and deliver a production-ready upgrade to allow immediate fielding.
U.S. Army Common Remotely Operated Station (CROWS) with Acoustic Target Recognition & Cueing Control: $1 million to provide next-generation acoustically-cued CROWS (stabilized remote weapon stations) that would direct observation and firepower immediately toward a threatening explosive event targeting our troops. Existing gunshot and explosion recognition will be modified for operation in the high-noise environments of a vehicle-mounted CROWS.
Defense Logistics Agency’s Castings for Improved Defense Readiness (CIDR): $2 million to improve defense readiness by ensuring the delivery of critical cast replacement and spare parts. CIDR will provide rapid, cost-effective solutions in the procurement of high-quality critical castings used in legacy systems in ongoing operations worldwide. Casting technology has reduced costs, improved processes and minimized production time. This program will develop new technology and procurement methods to maintain or improve weapon systems’ reliability, availability and maintainability.
