SUPPORT INCREASES FOR MAIN STREET USA ENERGY INDEPENDENCE SECURITY ACT

Washington, D.C.—Congressional leaders from all areas of the map joined efforts for a common sense approach to increase America’s energy supply.  Congressman Steve Buyer (IN) was joined by Congressmen Zach Wamp (TN), Mark Souder (IN), Don Young (AK), Gresham Barrett (SC), and Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (TN) in support of the Main Street USA Energy Independence Security Act to the nation.

“As a country we are realizing that we need to increase our energy supply as we watch a new record high for gas prices each day,” commented Buyer.  “Hoosiers are starting to make conscious decisions on their trips due to the prices at the pump burdening their wallets.”

The Main Street USA Energy Independence Security Act, H.R. 6001, builds upon the Energy Policy Act of 2005. H.R. 6001 is a significant work product that has been a year in the making, providing America with a broad based energy policy that our country desperately needs.  H.R. 6001 provides guidance to set America on a course to become less reliant on foreign energy and provide incentives for exploration and energy access here on home soil.

“H.R. 6001 seeks to encourage greater domestic production of energy, bringing more energy electricity to the grid, renewing development of the nation’s nuclear program, expanding cellulosic ethanol technologies, and increasing the use of clean coal.  This bill also provides for conservation incentives and supports renewable energy sources,” noted Buyer.

Congressman Buyer traveled to seven cities on Monday, including Monticello, Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Lebanon, Indianapolis, Martinsville and Franklin introducing the broad energy package initially to Indiana and subsequently held today’s press conference in Washington—introducing Main Street USA Energy Independence Security Act to the nation.

The Main Street USA Energy Independence Security Act has received a number of Member cosponsors: Tom Cole (OK), Sam Graves (MO), Chip Pickering (MS), Robin Hayes (NC), John Shimkus (IL), Mike Pence (IN), John Kline (MN), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Zack Wamp (TN), Dan Young (AK), Peter Hoeskstra (MI), Bell Shuster (PA), Patrick McHenry (NC), Gresham Barrett (SC), Mark Souder (IN), and John Shadegg (AZ).
