(Washington, DC) - {Congressman Baron Hill has joined the America Supports You Caucus, which was formed to highlight the America Supports You program administered by the U.S. Department of Defense.  The America Supports You program provides opportunities for citizens to show their support for the U.S. Armed Forces by connecting individuals, organizations, and companies to hundreds of homefront groups that offer a variety of support to the military community.  Through the America Supports You program, people are sending care packages to soldiers, donating airline miles to help reunite returning military men and women with their families, supporting scholarship funds, building homes for the wounded, and much, much more. 

“This program allows Americans to demonstrate, in various ways, their unwavering support for our troops,” Hill said.  “I am proud to join a caucus that will back the America Supports You program and work on crafting new legislation to further and strengthen this cause.”

The America Supports You Caucus will hold its kick-off event tomorrow with a press conference and roll-out ceremony.  In addition, the press conference will promote the new military discount offered by the U.S. Postal Service.  The Postal Service has recently launched a new box for larger shipments that has flat-rate shipping. 

“I have heard from many constituents about the prohibitive costs of sending care packages to their friends and family members who are serving our country overseas,” Hill said.  “I am pleased with the Postal Service’s decision to offer this new shipment option and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the America Supports You caucus to develop other ways of ensuring that all Americans, not only those who can afford it, are able to support our troops.”

The press conference will begin at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Room 2253 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
