Hill Ranked Third-Most-Centrist Democrat in House

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Baron Hill has been ranked the third-most-centrist Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives by the National Journal.  The publication scored various votes from the first session of the 110th Congress to determine the rankings.

“I believe my voting record accurately reflects my constituency in Southern Indiana,” Hill said.  “Hoosiers are common-sense people that make decisions based on how their lives and their community will be impacted.”

Hill’s position as the third-most-centrist Democrat in the House is due to his votes for and against various bills brought forth by the Democratic leadership.  For example, Hill voted against the Democratic budget proposal last year because it relied too heavily on tapping into the Social Security Trust fund to balance the budget.  On the other hand, he voted for Democratic proposals aimed at improving the lives of Americans, such as increasing the minimum wage, lowering college costs and providing the Department of Veterans Affairs with their largest budget for improving veterans’ health care.

“I look closely at every piece of legislation we have to vote on, regardless of who introduces it, and determine how it will affect the people of Southern Indiana,” Hill said.  “My responsibility as a Member of Congress is to represent my constituents and to take their opinions into consideration above my own when casting votes.”
