(Washington, DC) - Below is a list of projects in Southern Indiana funded by respective congressional appropriations bills. These funds are included in the House versions of each bill. In order for funds to be secured, the conference reports for each bill must include funding, and the reports must be passed by Congress and signed into law by the President.
„Ï $500,000, to construct a vital, new water treatment plant in Charlestown.
„Ï Indiana University is set to receive $3 million in funding for their Cyclotron Facility’s collaboration with NWSC, Crane, to design improvements and upgrade equipment at Indiana University’s Cyclotron Facility.
„Ï Muscatatuck Urban Training Center is projected to receive $2 million to enhance their training capabilities. More specifically, the funding will be used to install recording equipment to monitor and record training operations in order to give them a more thorough “after action report” evaluation, and / or install motion sensor equipment to activate “environmental elements” such as lights, sounds, or smells to enhance the realism of the training space and exercise.
„Ï The Ohio River Greenway project is set to receive $2.1 million in funding for the completion of the riverfront roadway and multi-use trails, and for the construction of the connection to the “Big 4 Bridges” in Jeffersonville.
„Ï Next Wave Communications is set to receive $250,000 to continue the development of secure wireless devices to outfit those who guard America’s nuclear weapons at the National Nuclear Security Administration.
„Ï Schneck Medical Center is set to receive $375,000 in funding for the expansion of their emergency room. The emergency room was originally designed to handle 15,000 patients annually, but currently serves 24,000 patients and the number continues to rise.
„Ï The Bloomington Hospital Foundation is projected to receive $200,000 for their e-health initiative through the Labor-HHS Appropriations bill. The Hospital Foundation’s e-health initiative would create a regional health information organization for South Central Indian for the purpose of creating electronic health records.
„Ï Ivy Tech – Southeast, located in Madison, Indiana, has been allocated $600,000 to develop an early / middle college program designed for young people who are underrepresented in postsecondary education.
„Ï The Indiana University Schools of Nursing on both the Bloomington and New Albany campuses will each receive $75,000 to purchase state-of-the-art human simulation technology and equipment.
„Ï The Mill Race Center for Active Adults is set to receive $250,000 for the construction of a new senior citizen employment center in Columbus. The current center is more than 50 years old and in need of replacement.
„Ï The City of Columbus is projected to receive $150,000 for the design and construction of a state-of-the-art center for engineering and manufacturing.
„Ï The Water Resources Development Act authorizes the Army Corp of Engineers to conduct water resource studies and undertake specific projects and programs for flood control, inland navigation, shoreline protection and environmental restoration. The bill contains authorizations for projects for two cities in Southern Indiana - Salem and North Vernon. Both projects call for a renovation of their water supply infrastructure.
