(Washington, DC) - Congressman Baron Hill is extremely disappointed with and frustrated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) decision to deny Indiana’s appeal for disaster assistance because of severe storm weather experienced in early August. Hill has been working closely with Governor Daniels on this state issue, garnering support from the federal level.
“To say that I am disappointed with FEMA’s decision is a serious understatement,” Hill said. “I know FEMA has specific criteria that must be met when reaching such decisions and that this is primarily an issue for the State government, but I could not sit on the sidelines on this one. Many of the counties affected are in my congressional district. I share their frustration with this decision. And although this will not apply to the August storms matter, I have already begun working on legislation to address what I consider to be an overly-bureaucratic policy that does not allow for FEMA to get the complete and total picture in these types of instances.”
Affected constituents are still encouraged to call Hill’s Jeffersonville District Office if the office can be of some assistance – 1-866-440-1321.
