SALINA — Congressman Jerry Moran today announced that the Saline County Sheriff’s office will be receiving a grant for $24,488 from the U.S. Department of Justice. The grant will be used for the Gang Resistance Education and Training Program (GREAT).
“Providing a safe community where parents can raise their children, free from violence, is vital,” Moran said. “This grant will allow officers to work with students to avoid future gang activity. The citizens of Saline County should feel safer knowing that their law enforcement officers are among the best in the state.”
The GREAT program is a life-skills competency program designed to provide students with the skills they need to avoid gang pressure and youth violence. The goal of the program is to provide training for law enforcement officers, in a school-based curriculum, in order to provide classroom instruction to students.
