WASHINGTON, D.C.-February 10, 2005 -The Owensboro-Davies County Airport has been awarded a $1.5 million Department of Transportation grant U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced today. Owensboro-Davies was among only 35 small regional airports nationwide selected for the award.

The grant is made possible by the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act signed into law by former President Bill Clinton on April 5, 2000. The statute established a pilot program, administered by the Department of Transportation, to help smaller communities enhance their air service. The U.S. Congress appropriated $20 million for the program in fiscal year 2003.

“Having the airport in Owensboro is an excellent resource for the surrounding area,” said Lewis.  “I am pleased the airport has again received supplemental funding from the Department of Transportation to expand its efficient and quality service.”

The Owensboro-Daviess County Airport Board plans to apply the funds to extend the existing runway.
