The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Transportation has requested funds for improvements to the I-95/I-93, University Avenue and Dedham Street Interchanges in Canton, Dedham, and Westwood. The principal change would be to replace the existing loop ramps at the I-93/I-95 Interchange with direct connect flyover ramps, which will eliminate a significant rollover hazard, reduce congestion and improve the operating efficiency and safety of the congested area roadways and interchanges. This specific request would assist in the design and construction of the Dedham Street Corridor improvements to widen the corridor from a 2-lane cross section to a 4-lane cross section including the reconstruction of three bridges, four signalized intersections and the I-95 northbound off ramp. The proposed corridor improvements are an integral component of the larger I-95/I-93 Interchange project in Canton. The corridor improvements are needed to improve traffic flow and access to the Route 128 Amtrak/MBTA station. The project meets the needs of the Commonwealth by alleviating existing traffic congestion and improving safety on I-95 at Exits 12 and 13 and adjacent local roadways. $1,200,000 is requested for design and construction of these infrastructure improvements.
