Requested funding will be used for a project between the Natick Soldier System Center and Acumentrics), to provide a generator for a next generation combat feeding unit powered by Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC). Natick is responsible for reducing the logistical challenges of feeding troops in the field while maintaining food quality. Currently, more than 4,000 old-line kitchen units are deployed in the field. SOFC's offer significant advantages over traditional generators including a more reliable and efficient output of heat and electricity, minimal maintenance, a wider range of operating fuels, and the environmental benefits of lower fuel usage.
