Boston University School of Medicine has requested funding for facilities and equipment for biomedical research related amyloidosis. This equipment will support laboratory and clinical research treatment of the rare disease group “systemic amyloidosis” at the Boston University Medical Center. “ Sytemic amyloidosis” includes both rare hereditary and acquired disease in which proteins damage vital organs leading to organ failure and death. Further basic research is necessary to understand the structural properties of the varied amyloidosis proteins for all amyloid types.
