For Immediate Release: July 9, 2009 Further Information: Mark Forest/Rory Sheehan - 202-225-3111 DELAHUNT-ROHRABACHER PRESS CONFERENCE FRIDAY TO ANNOUNCE RESOLUTION CONDEMNING CHINESE REPRESSION OF UIGHURS WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Reps Bill Delahunt (D-MA) and Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA), Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight Subcommittee, will hold a press conference on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the House Triangle to announce the introduction of a resolution to condemn China’s repression of Uighur protests.  Chairman Delahunt and Ranking Member Rohrabacher will be joined by Uighur leader and Nobel Peace prize nominee, Ms. Rebiya Kadeer. Delahunt and Rohrabacher have been deeply disturbed by the actions of the Chinese government in repressing Uighur protests.  The Congressmen, familiar with the work of Ms.Kadeer, are alarmed by the Chinese government’s rhetoric framing Ms. Kadeer as a terrorist or inciter of violence.  The introduction of their House resolution is intended to reassert Congress’ support for the Uighur people and of Ms. Rebiya Kadeer role as a peaceful Uighur leader and activist.
