Sept. 25, 2008

Washington, DC -- In cooperation with the Living Classrooms Foundation (LCF), the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) will receive funding for its Environmental Education Program under the U.S. Department of Education’s File Earmark Grant Awards Program.

The grant award of $406,768.00 is anticipated to endure for a period of one year and will help CBF provide students and teachers with field-based education and training experiences throughout the Chesapeake Bay.

Roughly 17,400 students from 36 schools in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. will learn to be lifelong stewards of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, while teachers will be part of hands-on professional development programs.

The LFC will also receive funding to sponsor various environmental education initiatives in Baltimore Co., Baltimore City, Maryland and Washington D.C., serving about 34,800 students and 280 teachers from 72 schools. Both the CBF and LFC focus on providing environmental knowledge, skills and motivation to program participants.
