Cummings Receives SIGTARP Quarterly Report

Report shows continued oversight work to protect taxpayer funds.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings read the third quarterly report from SIGTARP Neil Barofsky this morning with great interest. The report detailed SIGTARP activities to this point, including investigations, audits and criminal cases.

“I am pleased with the work done by Mr. Barofsky and his staff,” said Cummings. “The recent controversy, regarding bonuses still being paid by companies who received TARP money, shows the importance of transparency and oversight in our economic recovery.”

The next report released by SIGTARP will likely be one based on an audit requested by Cummings and 26 other Members, requesting an investigation into AIG’s counterparty payments.

“I look forward to the results of the audit,” said Cummings. “We must hold people accountable for the actions they have taken with taxpayer money. Working with Mr. Barofsky, I intend to do just that.”
