Cummings Requests Appropriate Reviews In Baltimore Firefighter Death

Cummings Requests Appropriate Reviews In Baltimore Firefighter Death
Congressman sent letter Thursday morning to Baltimore City F.D. and Department of Justice.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings Thursday sent letters to the United States Department of Justice and the Baltimore City Fire Department. He requested that the Fire Department immediately provide the documents needed by DOJ to expedite the review of an appeal in the benefit request of the family of Firefighter Cadet Racheal Wilson. Congressman Cummings also asked that the DOJ expedite that appeal.

“The death of any public servant, in the line of duty, or in training is a tragedy,” said Congressman Cummings. “As with anyone who makes the ultimate sacrifice in their quest to serve the public good, it is critical that we show the respect we have, for Cadet Wilson, to her family in the time of their great loss. This injustice must be rectified and I am committed to seeing that accomplished.”

Cummings’ letter to Baltimore City Fire Chief James Clack requested that BCFD immediately provide the authorization that allowed Cadet Wilson to fight fires in training, and the description and level of Cadet Wilson’s training at the time of her passing.

The letter to DOJ emphasized that BCFD and the President of Firefighters Local 734 are ready to assist the Department in any way during their investigation.

Both letters were sent Thursday morning and are available to members of the press upon request. The letters can be requested by emailing paul.kincaid@mail.house.gov.
