Tax Forms Available at Rep. Ehlers’ GR Office

Ehlers concerned about accessibility issues at new IRS local office

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – In response to accessibility concerns at the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) local Taxpayer Assistance Center, Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers is providing constituents with free tax filing forms at his Grand Rapids office. The office is located on the first floor of the Gerald R. Ford Federal Building, which is located at 110 Michigan St. NE in Grand Rapids. Due to heightened security, cell phones, cameras, and laptops are not permitted in the building.

“The new location of the local IRS office is creating hardship for many people in West Michigan who rely on the bus for transportation,” said Congressman Ehlers. “My office is located conveniently near several bus stops in downtown Grand Rapids, so I decided to make tax filing forms available here, at my office. Although my staff cannot offer tax preparation advice, they can provide people with IRS forms between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.”

The IRS relocated the Grand Rapids Taxpayer Assistance Center from its location downtown to a new facility, located at 3251 N. Evergreen Dr. NE, Grand Rapids, 49525. The Rapid bus service does not serve the new location.

People in need of tax preparation assistance who cannot access the local IRS office can call the IRS live assistance line at 1-800-829-1040 or go online to www.IRS.gov. Face-to-face, free tax assistance is available in West Michigan through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs. Volunteers from local community organizations help prepare tax returns for low- to moderate- income and elderly taxpayers.

Below is a list of locations currently participating in VITA and TCE. Hours, dates, locations, and availability may vary. People are encouraged to call before visiting a location, as they may also require an appointment.
