Ehlers to Co-Chair National Prayer Breakfast

Congressman Ehlers to lead event with Rep. Shuler in Washington, DC Thursday

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Vernon J. Ehlers (R-MI) and Heath Shuler (D-NC) have been selected to co-chair the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC this Thursday, February 5. The event, which is expected to draw more than 3,400 guests from 175 countries, has been a tradition on the first Thursday of February since 1953, when President Dwight Eisenhower and U.S. Senator Frank Carlson hosted the first prayer breakfast.

“I am looking forward to participating in prayer the and celebration of faith at the National Prayer Breakfast,” said Congressman Ehlers. “This is a unique opportunity for me to share a stage with world leaders, and engage in moving and frank discussions about faith, politics, and society.”

National Prayer Breakfast attendees represent a large cross-section of faiths and backgrounds. President Barack Obama is expected to speak, as well as a keynote speaker who will be identified during the event.

The National Prayer Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Washington Hilton. The event may be viewed live online for a fee of $5.00 at www.eventbuilder.com.
