GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Public service is of critical importance to our nation’s strength and security. Volunteers help provide social services, build housing, provide meals to the poor, and mentor young people. To support public service efforts, Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers will co-chair the National Service Congressional Caucus, and will visit with AmeriCorps volunteers at the West Side Health Clinic in Grand Rapids on Monday, May 11. The week of May 9 – 16 marks the third annual AmeriCorps week.
“National service programs, such as AmeriCorps, create a win-win situation in our communities,” said Congressman Ehlers. “Volunteers learn skills and leadership through their work, and the community benefits through the programs in which they participate. Many people in West Michigan rely on the services provided by these programs, and they deserve the support of Congress.”
Congressman Ehlers will co-chair the bipartisan caucus with Rep. David Price (D-NC), Rep. Todd Platts (R-PA), and Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA).
