Ehlers Named “Friend of Job Corps”

Congressman also named an honorary Job Corps member

WASHINGTON – Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers spoke to students today at the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center in Grand Rapids and was presented with a “Friend of the Job Corps” award. Ehlers was also named an honorary member for his consistent support of the program.

“The Job Corps program is a great asset to the community,” said Ehlers. “I have always supported funding for Job Corps because it sets so many young people on the right path to success.”

Job Corps is the nation's largest and most comprehensive residential, education and job training program for at-promise youth, ages 16 through 24. Since its inauguration in 1964, under the Economic Opportunity Act, Job Corps has provided more than 2 million disadvantaged young people with the integrated academic, vocational, and social skills training they need to further their education and get quality, long-term jobs.
