| Washington, D.C.-Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that Mott Community College would receive $1.1 million in funding from two FY 2003 appropriations bills. Mott Community College will receive $830,000 from the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill and an additional $270,000 from the VA-HUD Appropriations bill. Mott Community College will use these earmarks to fund the Workforce Development Institute for Manufacturing Simulation in Flint, MI. Over the past three fiscal years, Congressman Kildee has helped secure over $3.8 million for Mott Community College’s Workforce Development Institute for Manufacturing Simulation.
“I am pleased to have led the effort to secure these funds for Mott Community College,” said Kildee. “The Workforce Development Institute for Manufacturing Simulation will increase employment opportunities in high skill technology industries nationwide.”
The $1.1 million in FY2003 earmarked funds will enable MCC to develop new simulation curriculum in virtual machining and it will develop discrete event process planning for the auto industry. This funding will be used to develop virtual product models and training modules to facilitate the simulation program. This project will provide digital manufacturing and virtual prototypes for the automotive, defense, aerospace and maritime industries. The Mott Workforce Development Institute for Manufacturing Simulation will address the automotive industry’s need for skilled technicians, knowledgeable engineers, and qualified manufacturing managers. In the FY2001 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, Mott Community College received a $1.775 million earmark to help form the Workforce Development Institute for Manufacturing Simulation. |
