WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Dale E. Kildee (D-MI) announced today that he has secured $3,444,000 in federal funding for the Saginaw River Dredging and Projects Condition Survey. In addition, the Congressman helped secure $2,471,000 for the Great Lakes Fishery and Ecosystem Restoration, a portion of which will benefit the Frankenmuth Dam. The funding was secured in the Conference Report on H.R. 3183, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2010, which passed the House of Representatives today by a vote of 308 to 114. The bill is expected to pass the Senate shortly and then be signed into law by the President.
“I am very pleased that the House of Representatives has approved my requests for this funding, which will make critical infrastructure improvements and facilitate transportation and shipping in our region. I am proud to support these initiatives and I am thankful for the benefits they provide to our community,” said Congressman Kildee.
Listed below are the projects that received funding at the request of Congressman Kildee:
$3,444,000 for the Saginaw River Dredging and Project Condition Surveys: The Saginaw River Channel is a federally authorized commercial navigation project. Future maintenance dredging is required for navigation to continue at maximum efficiency on the river. Since 2004, Congressman Kildee has secured $16,707,000 for this project.
$2,471,000 for the Great Lakes Fishery and Ecosystem Restoration. A portion of this funding will benefit the Frankenmuth Dam: This funding will be used to continue authorized activities on Frankenmuth Dam Fish Passage. Exact funding levels for the Dam will be determined by the Army Corps of Engineers.
