Eleanor Josaitis

J.J. Politis, 9th Grade, Fraser High School

A woman in history who deeply inspires me is Eleanor Josaitis. She is a great inspiration to everybody. She has won 40 awards for being the co-founder of Focus: HOPE. Josaitis has also been given 13 honorary doctoral degrees from separate prestigious colleges and universities. She was even inducted into Michigan women’s hall of fame. Focus: HOPE is an organization that works to get rid of racism, poverty, and injustice. It does this by providing food, training, education, and community arts to those who need it most. The program was set up by Josaitis in 1967, right after the Detroit riots. Thousands of people are given an opportunity because of this amazing woman. She sets up peoples futures at the early ages by setting up an infant and toddler care. Josaitis now gives actively to charities and also raises funds for her own organization. She lives in Detroit, and she is still developing better ideas for her program. She currently serves on a number of committees and advisory boards.  Everybody dreams to help people out as much as Eleanor did. She is certainly a person who puts others before herself. She is a woman of true integrity and determination. Eleanor Josaitis has worked extensively on economic development plans. She works hard for others, and she accepts nothing in return. Josaitis has also hosted a conference at the White House. Focus: HOPE now has 51,000 volunteers and donors, and it has nearly 350 colleagues. Eleanor Josaitis is a lady that knows what the right thing to do is. She is definitely a true role model for people of all races.
