Patricia Wright

By Jessica Wright, 11th Grade, Oak Park High School

Being that March is Women’s History Month, I would like to celebrate each and every woman that has excelled through life’s trials, succeeded at their goals, and stepped on anyone that tried to hinder them from become the great, powerful, and historical women that they are today!  Michigan is home of many women that has successfully finished school, overcame all obstacles, and made a difference in lives of the youth.  I am inspired by several women historical figures, contemporary figures, and also family members.  The most influential woman that has encouraged me in life is my own mother, Mrs. Patricia Wright.  I believe that she deserves all commemoration that may be given to such a willing worker for God, a fighter, and most of all a loving and caring mother, wife, sister, aunt, etc.
Although, my mother may not be much of a famous historical woman in the society of Michigan, she is known for her many works in the church community.  She is not only the president of the usher board; she is also on the ministerial staff.  She takes time out of her day to bless others with an encouraging word from God.  She has also has a drive to organize and set up numerous church functions for the youth.  Everyone loves the positive and bless presence that she brings in a room.  Many are not only self-assured but blessed by just watching the many miracles that form around her.  For this my mother is one of the most dominant women that I am inspired by.
Also, I’m sure that we have all had our own trials and tribulations, but my mother gets through it no matter how bearing….with a smile on her face.  She has endured numerous amounts of information that may weaken and tear others down, however, she uses it as another reason to rejoice and thank God.  I see my mother as a true fighter.  Not just for herself, but also for her family.  She is not easily broken.  My mother has shown that she is a strong woman….by not giving up when the doctors diagnosed her and also when she was one of the many to be cut from her job.  My mother has not slowed down any!  She is still keeping her head to the sky, and moving in the will of God.
Furthermore, my mother is a strong family lover.  She enjoys getting us together for the countless occasions when my family may have planned family barbeques, family reunions, and family holiday dinners.  You could call my mom the aunt of the family.  Even if your not blood you would still call her ‘Auntie Patty’ like all the rest because she was that type of person to lead you in the right direction and be there for you when you needed that ‘GOOD’ word!
Lastly, with it March being Women’s History Month, I am proud to say that I honor and respect every woman that has shown themselves to be great and powerful women in the eyes of Michigan.  There have been several women historical figures, contemporary figures, and also family members.  However, the most influential woman in my life is my own mother, Mrs. Patricia Wright.  My mother is a phenomenal woman, born and raised in the city of Detroit; she has matured and molded herself into the powerful women that she is today, with the help of her own mother.  I hope to do the same as a mother…with my own children, just as she did with hers.
