  • Attended Grand Opening of Macomb-OU INCubator, a joint venture between Sterling Heights, Macomb County, and Oakland University to assist the successful development of start-up companies focused on defense, homeland security, manufacturing, and alternative energy. 
  • Met with Trade Subcommittee Staff to review the week’s trade agenda and pending trade issues

  • Chaired Trade Subcommittee Hearing on Trade Advisory Committee System
  • The U.S. House met at 12:00 p.m. for legislative business.  Voted and spoke in favor of H.J.Res. 56- Approving the renewal of import restrictions contained in the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act. 
  • Met with Fonterra to discuss agricultural policy and trade agreements
  • Met with Michigan Bankers to discuss regulatory restructuring proposals. 

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

  • The U.S. House met at 10:00 a.m. for legislative business.  Debated and voted on H.R. 2920- Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act which would require Congress to offset the costs of new entitlement spending or tax cuts with savings elsewhere in the budget.
  • Attended meeting with Ways and Means Democrats to discuss health care reform legislation. 
  • President Obama held a press conference to discuss health care reform.

  • The U.S. House met at 10:00 a.m. for legislative business.  Debated and voted on H.R. 3288- Department of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.  
  • Spoke with President of Joint Commission to discuss quality improvement provisions in health care reform legislation
  • Attended Meeting with Ways and Means Democrats to discuss health care reform legislation.
  • Spoke to Macomb County Board of Commissioners public hearing on unemployment insurance. 
  • Hosted telephone town hall meeting with constituents.

  • Attended meeting with Colleagues and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to discuss unemployment insurance
  • The U.S. House met at 9:00 a.m. for Legislative Business.  Debated and voted on H.R. 3293- Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Act 
  • Spoke with President of Economic Alliance for Michigan regarding unemployment insurance in Michigan.
  • Met with Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs at US Labor Department’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs to discuss worker rights in trade agreements.
