Congresswoman Kilpatrick Insists Summer Jobs Program Must Be Included
in the New Stimulus Package

Detroit, MI —  “As our nation hurtles toward an economic tsunami of record setting gas and food prices, home foreclosures, and unemployment, I and all Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are renewing our appeal for a Summer Jobs Program to stimulate the American economy,” said Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (13th District, Michigan), Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

“The American people have lobbied Congress to devise a timely, targeted, and temporary remedy to our deepening economic crisis. Any stimulus package must include a summer jobs program aimed at young people and their parents and grandparents. Congress must craft real solutions that will reinvigorate the economy, renew consumer confidence, and relieve American families of the burdens of the high costs of education, health care, gas, and food. We must focus on creating real results for real families with real problems.”

“The inclusion of a Summer Jobs Program in the new stimulus package is of utmost and immediate importance. We unanimously support this employment initiative designed to immediately address and redress some of the needs of working Americans, create jobs and the opportunities they offer, provide a steady source of taxes to our strapped cities and states, and support individual workers and their families.”
