Dingell Hails “Historic Vote” on Health Insurance Reform

Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15), Chairman Emeritus of the Committee on Energy & Commerce and Dean of the U.S. House of Representatives, released the following statement tonight after the Committee on Energy & Commerce passed H.R. 3200, the “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.”  Congressman Dingell is the lead sponsor of the legislation, which has already passed the Committees on Ways & Means and Education & Labor, and will come to the Floor of the House for a vote in September.

“I was extremely honored to vote in favor of H.R. 3200, the ‘America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009’.  H.R. 3200 is a strong piece of legislation that will meet the challenges facing American families, business, and government resulting from the crushing costs of health care.  The contributions made by the Members of the Committee on Energy & Commerce made a strong bill even stronger.

“I commend Chairman Waxman for his leadership and the Members of the Committee for their endurance and well thought out amendments.  The past few months have not been easy.  However, the goal is worthy of the commitment.  In the best traditions of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, the Members rose to the challenge and delivered for the American people.  Our action tonight brings us one step closer to providing quality, stable, affordable health coverage for every American.  I look forward to providing continued leadership on this issue and will not rest until I am able to witness President Obama sign comprehensive health reform legislation into law.”
