| Dingell on General Motors Co. Pending Exit from Bankruptcy |
|
Dearborn, MI - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) released the following statement today in reaction to the news of court approval for the exit of General Motors’ good assets from bankruptcy:
“Throughout the restructuring and bankruptcy process, there has been careful examination of what led GM to the brink of extinction and what will make the company stronger as it moves forward. The new company has answered a series of challenging questions with new labor contracts, fewer brands and, most important of all, exciting new cars that will impress buyers here and around the world. The United Auto Workers made very painful concessions. GM announced many job layoffs and plant closings, including Willow Run Transmission in my district. However, GM has also made a new commitment to our state, with the announcement of the new small car facility coming to Lake Orion, Michigan. Make no mistake, GM has a lot of challenges ahead, but the new GM emerges from this period as a company better prepared to compete in the 21st century. Now, GM can get back to doing what it does best – building quality cars that people want to drive.”
