Dingell Discusses Stimulus with Constituents in the Downriver Area

Southgate, MI - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) talked with constituents in the Downriver area about how the stimulus bill can help them personally. The $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) includes millions for the region, including investments for energy efficiency, education, and transportation infrastructure. It also includes billions of dollars for tax incentives, increases in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), COBRA, and dozens of other programs to ease the pain of these difficult economic times for individual families. This event focused on how families in the region can best take advantage of these opportunities by giving them the ability to speak with various relevant government agencies that administer the program. After the event, the Congressman made the following remarks:

“I want to thank all of those who came to our meeting today in Southgate. I'm glad we had the opportunity to share our guidebook on the stimulus package and the guidebook for displaced workers. When I have the chance to talk with my constituents - who will be able to use those resources and the advice from our expert panelists today to help during this time of economic transition - good things come from it.”

Congressman Dingell has compiled guidebooks on the how to apply for ARRA funds as well as a guidebook for displaced workers to provide some direction to individuals in need of a roadmap for accessing the myriad of options available.
