Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) applauded the Department of Energy (DOE) for awarding the City of Ann Arbor an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG). Worth $1.243 million, this grant is intended to promote green jobs and improved energy efficiency in the Ann Arbor area. The EECBG program is funded thorough the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
“This grant is a great thing for a city like Ann Arbor, which is committed to improving the environment,” Congressman Dingell said. “In today’s tough economic climate, promoting the creation of green jobs is an excellent form of economic stimulus, in addition to helping conserve our environment. The energy efficiency programs this money will be used to implement will help get our nation on the road to energy independence. I’m confident the city will use the money well.”
The EECBG program began in 2009 and Congress has appropriated $3.2 billion for the program.
