| Single Standard = Certainty for Industry, Increased Security for Thousands of Workers |

Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) made the following remarks today after Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson announced a proposal to raise national fuel economy standards above 35 miles per gallon by 2016.
“Today’s announcement builds on the commitment of the Obama Administration to create a single, unified auto emissions standard. This continues to be the right approach and I applaud the Administration for its wise action. The announcement today gives U.S. automakers certainty and prevents conflicting national and state standards. Our automakers, together with our terrific auto workers, are doing a wonderful job getting the cars of the 21st century from the drawing board and into the showrooms. I look forward to continuing to work with the Administration to ensure we continue to protect the environment while also protecting jobs.”
