Dingell on the Bald Eagle’s Removal from the Endangered Species List

Washington, DC -  An original sponsor of the 1973 Endangered Species Act, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) made the following comments on the removal of the bald eagle from the endangered species list:

“This is a glorious day for all of those people who have worked to protect the bald eagle and their habitats. For more than 40 years, we have struggled to save our national symbol from extinction. The eagle’s revival is reason why we must protect the Endangered Species Act. While we celebrate the eagle today, it is my hope we continue to allow the ESA to work and other celebrations will come as we rescue other species now dangerously close to disappearing from our planet.”
