Dingell Statement on Bush Visits to GM & Ford Plants

Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) made the following comments today on the President’s visit to a GM plant and a Ford plant in the Kansas City area:

“The President had to be pleased to see some of the best hybrid automobiles in the world produced by proud, dedicated American workers. While he didn’t visit Michigan plants, I want to thank the President on behalf of all of my constituents working in the industry, many of whom are leading the industry’s efforts to make more fuel efficient vehicles.

“I hope the President realizes that today’s visits must be followed up with better policy that will get more hybrid and E85 vehicles on the road. America’s automakers have the know-how and the will to break new ground and produce more energy-efficient vehicles. Consumers have shown an interest in buying such vehicles. Now it is up to the President to do more to make it easier for Americans to buy and own these remarkable new automobiles.”
