Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) announced today that the Department of Transportation will give Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport Authority a discretionary grant designated to help the airport’s residential neighbors reduce noise caused by incoming and outbound flights. The Airport will receive $5,168,808 to cover costs of noise mitigation measures for residences within the area.
"The Detroit Metropolitan Airport is a tremendous resource to the communities in Wayne County. This grant will serve to further strengthen the relationship between Metro Airport and the surrounding communities,” Congressman Dingell said. “The selection of the Metro Airport for this grant is a tribute to its strong standing within the community and the strength of its management team and employees. As the Member of Congress that represents Metro Airport, I am proud of all that they have accomplished and will continue to accomplish through this grant."
"This grant money helps to defray the cost of sound insulating homes in several communities near the airport," said Airport Authority CEO Lester Robinson. "Sound insulation includes new acoustical windows, sound-attenuating doors, attic insulation, and in most homes, heating, ventilation and air conditioning improvements. Congressman Dingell has never failed to support our noise mitigation program and we appreciate his continued advocacy for this and many other airport endeavors."
