Dearborn, MI - With a busy and hectic period for Congress scheduled to end this Friday, Congressman John D. Dingell is looking forward to spending the Memorial Day weekend with veterans of wars past and present who have served our country so bravely. The Congressman plans on leaving Washington Friday to join Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly, State Representative Gino Polidori and Wayne County Commissioner Gary Woronchak as hosts for a viewing of the Academy Award nominated film Flags of Our Fathers for military Veterans, their families and friends. The doors at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center will open at 5:30pm with movie starting at 6pm.
“I am glad to have this opportunity to see so many wonderful friends who have defended our nation and our freedom,” said Dingell, himself a World War II veteran. “We will have the chance to talk about issues. Our veterans have a lot to say on what is happening both abroad and here at home. This is a chance for me to hear more about what they and their families are doing.”
The film, inspired by the book of the same name, chronicles the battle for Iwo Jima and the experiences of the five marines and one Navy corpsman whose iconic image of the raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi came to represent the war and the hard fought struggle to win it.
