Skelton: Missouri Receives Federal Funding to Prepare for a Potential Influenza Pandemic

| Lexington, Missouri – Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO) announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will release more than $1,700,000 to the Missouri Department of Health. The funding will be distributed through the Pandemic Influenza Healthcare Preparedness Improvements for States program.
“This funding is very important to the state and to residents of the Fourth District. In light of the H1N1 influenza, it is important that we take the appropriate measures to prepare for a potential outbreak. A global pandemic represents one of the most catastrophic threats to the public health system. And, this funding will allow the state to prepare and execute a plan,” said Skelton.
The purpose of the Pandemic Influenza Healthcare Preparedness Improvements for States program is to improve the state’s ability to prepare for an influenza pandemic. More information about the program is available online by visiting the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
