WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO) delivered the “Prayer for National Leaders” at the National Prayer Breakfast, a yearly event hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, in Washington, D.C.  This year’s program included remarks by the President of the United States, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and other Members of Congress.  Portions of Skelton’s prayer are set forth below:

In our own day we pray for our President, Barack Obama, and his wife, Michelle
We also pray for the Members of Congress
Our military leaders and all government leaders
in the States and local communities.
Help them to fulfill their sacred pledge and perform their duties
with wisdom and compassion.

Especially we pray today for those
who are involved in military service.
Protect them and sustain them until they return safely
and together with them we live in peace.
