Skelton: Recovery Act Releases Impact Aid Funds To Fourth District Schools

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO) announced that the U.S. Department of Education will release more than $1.1 million in Impact Aid funds to two school districts in Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District.  The funding was made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and will be distributed through the Impact Aid Construction Formula Grant program.

“I am so pleased that students, teachers, and communities will benefit from additional Impact Aid funds associated with the economic stimulus package passed by Congress.  These funds will help modernize schools and will help fulfill the federal government’s long-standing obligation to school districts impacted by military bases,” said Skelton.

The school districts in Missouri’s Fourth Congressional District that will receive Recovery Act funding include, Knob Noster R-VIII School District, which will receive $212,886, and Waynesville R-VI School District, which will receive $967,854.

The Impact Aid program, started under President Harry S. Truman, provides critical support to school districts that lose tax revenue due to the presence of tax-exempt Federal property, such as military bases, Indian lands, and low-rent housing properties.  The additional funding helps ensure these school districts have the resources necessary to meet the needs of all of their students.
