Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO) announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will release $16,500 to the Richland Police Department for the purchase of a police vehicle.  The funding was made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and will be distributed through the USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities program. 

          “I was pleased to learn that the Richland police department will benefit from funds associated with the Recovery Act passed by Congress.  The purchase of an additional police car will help to ensure the department has the tools it needs to protect and serve the community,” said Skelton.

          USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities program provides financial support to critical community facilities in rural areas.  These facilities include schools, libraries, childcare centers, hospitals, assisted living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, and community centers.  Community Facilities funding is limited to communities of 20,000 or less.
