WASHINGTON, DC - Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, announced today the non-profit Farms for Families organization, based in Livingston, has been awarded a $34,650 grant to design and operate a mobile processing unit (MPU) for Montana poultry producers.
“These funds represent an investment in Montana’s ag communities,” said Rehberg, a member of the House Appropriations Committee. “Better access to processing will lead to more stability for the state’s poultry producers as well as create growth and expansion on Montana’s small poultry farms.”
The grant is from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Business Enterprise Grant program. Farms for Families will use the funding to design, build, and operate a mobile processing unit capable of processing up to a few thousand chickens.
“We’re pleased this project is getting underway,” said Mark Rehder, Executive Director of Farms for Families. “There’s a high demand for poultry products, and we believe a mobile processing unit will be the catalyst for increased small farm production of poultry in the state.” |
