| Greenville, N.C. — The National President of the
Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), Marvin W. Johnson, installed Congressman
Walter B. Jones, Jr., (R-3rd N.C.) as an Honorary Member of FRA Camp Lejeune
Branch 208.
During the East Coast Regional Midyear meeting held earlier this month in Greenville, Congressman Jones received the Honorary Membership for his distinguished service in improving the quality of life for active duty and retired Sea Service personnel, according to Past Regional President, East Coast, Otto W. Ritter. "To be recognized by the FRA is one of the greatest honors I have ever received," Jones said. "I am proud, yet humbled, to be part of the organization made up of men and women who so honorably serve this great Nation. I appreciate this honor, and look forward to continuing our work together on behalf of our Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel and their families." Congressman Jones serves as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and has continuously supported the veteran’s community throughout his three terms in Congress. He introduced the War Crimes Act of 1996, and was a co-sponsor of legislation to authorize the Medicare sub-prevention demonstration program. Congressman Jones was also an original sponsor of the legislation to repeal REDUX, a bill which led to restoring equity in retirement pay for many career service members. Congressman Jones was also the keynote speaker for the 1997 East Coast Region Midyear meeting. Charles L. Calkins, the National Executive Secretary for the FRA stated that, "FRA takes great pride in welcoming Congressman Jones to its membership." "Congressman Jones’ dedicated support of the active duty, retired and veteran personnel in his district, and his support of the FRA legislative program makes him truly worthy of being an Honorary Member of the FRA," Calkins explained. The federally charted FRA is the oldest and largest military association representing the concerns of enlisted Sea Service personnel. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the FRA works to safeguard military pay and benefits by representing the concerns of its 155,000 members before Congress and appropriate federal agencies. |
