TO COMMEMORATE NATION’S VETERANS Bills to Honor Disabled, Vietnam Veterans |
|
| Washington, D.C. — Major initiatives to honor U.S.
disabled and Vietnam veterans today won support from a key subcommittee.
Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC), who sits on the House Resources Subcommittee
on National Parks and Public Lands, called the bills’ passage a fitting
tribute to all of our nation’s veterans.
“The men and women who serve this great country make the greatest sacrifice in the name of freedom,” Jones said. “Unfortunately, their courage is too often taken for granted. Today, we cast an important vote to provide a constant reminder of the unwavering commitment of these brave men and women.” H.R. 3293 would provide for a plaque near the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. to honor veterans who died as a result of their service during the Vietnam War. H.R. 1509 would authorize the establishment of a memorial to honor veterans who became disabled while serving in the U. S. Armed Forces. “These bills would memorialize those who courageously served and sacrificed for America and helped make this country what it is today. They deserve this recognition and their families deserve something tangible as a reminder of their sacrifice.” The full Committee on Resources will consider both H.R. 1509 and H.R. 3293 in the next few weeks. |
