| Washington, D.C. — By a vote of 229 - 187, the U.S.
House of Representatives today passed H.R 4199, the Date Certain Tax Code
Replacement Act, which would force Congress to replace the current tax
code with a more fair, simple federal income tax system. Congressman
Walter B. Jones (R-NC) is a co-sponsor of the legislation.
“The IRS tax code is 44,000 pages and growing,” Jones said. “This bill would force Congress to throw out the burdensome tax code and create a less complicated, more reasonable system. Working Americans need real tax reform and this is the best way we can achieve it.” H.R. 4199 would sunset the current IRS tax code by 2005 and require
that Congress approve a replacement that better reflects the priorities
of working Americans. The measure would establish a bipartisan 15-member
commission to help foster discussion and make reform and transition recommendations
to Congress.
