FOR EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA’S MILITARY CHILDREN |
|
| Washington, D.C. — Congressman Walter B. Jones (R-NC)
voted to pass the Impact Aid Reauthorization Act of 2000 (H.R. 3616), which
provides federal funding to support the education of military children
in Eastern North Carolina.
“This funding is necessary to ensure our local schools have the resources
they need to provide every child with a quality education,” Jones said.
“Impact Aid provides funding to schools that lose taxable property due
to the tax exempt status of federal buildings and facilities located in
our nation’s communities. With the number of military installations
in Eastern North Carolina, our local schools would suffer a significant
educational disadvantage without support from Impact Aid.”
More than 1,600 districts nationally are affected by a federal presence, including military installations, tribal lands, low-rent housing, or national parks. H.R. 3616 passed the House of Representatives by voice vote on May 15, 2000. |
