| Washington, D.C. — On the 56th anniversary of D-Day
and the National D-Day Museum opening, Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-NC) today
made the following comments:
“Today our nation marks the anniversary of D-Day. On June 6, 1944, U.S. forces participated in Operation Overlord, the landing of allied forces on the coast of Normandy, France. The operation, which later became known as ‘D-Day,’ was the largest sea-borne invasion in history. “Fifty-six years after D-Day, our nation pays special tribute to our brave veterans by opening the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans. The museum will serve as a constant reminder of a generation of Americans who endured through often-unthinkable circumstances to liberate millions and build the United States of America into what it is today. “Please join me today in honoring our U.S. servicemen and women who participated in D-Day. Their courage and unwavering sense of duty to this country have insured our freedom and liberty. We owe them our respect and appreciation.” |
